Doctor, Ears- Part II

Bryan had tubes put in both ears today. It was an early morning, we had to be at Cooks by 5am, but Bryan was such a trooper. I went into wake him up and he didn't cry or fuss, he just started talking and he sang songs all the way to the hospital. Patrick stayed home with Emma, because she had to be at school later in the morning, so my dad (Boompa) was so wonderful and took off work for the morning to help me with Bryan (My mom, Nana, was out of town). I'm so thankful Boompa was there!! The procedure itself was only a few minutes long so we weren't waiting in the waiting room long before the doctor came out to say he did great. They said he had LOTS of fluid in his ears and they would probably be draining for a couple days. The only bad part of the whole experience was Bryan coming out of the anesthesia...he was mad and was making sure everyone in recovery knew it!! Boompa and I threw out all our tricks and nothing seemed to work...luckily after about 30 minutes or so he started to calm down and we got to go home shortly after that. Patrick and I took off work for the day and since Emma was at school it was kind of fun to have some alone time with Bryan (even if he was grumpy!!) By the time Emma came home from school Bryan had taken a 2 1/2 hour nap and was back to normal. Hoping these tubes do the trick and prevent all those nasty ear infections!! Almost forgot to mention- Bryan pointed to everything medical in the hospital (tubes on the walls, stethoscope on nurse's neck, pulse-ox monitor on his toe, etc...) and said "doctor"

(A couple pics in the play area waiting to be called back to anesthesia- he looked pretty cute in his purple gown!)

"Doctor, Ears"

Bryan had his visit with the ENT yesterday afternoon and he has recommended that Bryan get tubes in both ears....after six ear infections over the past twelve months we're ready!! The ENT was great and even got Emma to laugh (which she usually never does in a doctor's office!). We're scheduled for a pre-op next Tuesday and then the procedure the following Monday at Cooks. I'm a little nervous because they put them under general anaesthesia and you cannot be with them during the procedure, but I keep telling myself this is a very common procedure and it will help so much with the pain he goes through from the ear infections!

On a funny note- yesterday when Patrick was getting the kids ready to leave for the doctors he told Bryan "Let's get your jacket on so we can go see the doctor" and Bryan responded with "Doctor, Ears" and he pointed to his ears. Poor kid, thinks the only thing you see the doctor for is your ears!!

Sister & Brother

I'm loving how Emma and Bryan have really started to enjoy playing together. Tea party seems to be the recent favorite...and the pictures don't capture how sweet it is to see them playing and conversing with one another! Tonight Emma begged us to have a slumber party with Bryan. She wanted the two of them to sleep on the floor in the family room- we were able to convince her to let Bryan sleep in his crib and her on the floor in his room. We'll see how the night goes!!

It's official- SMG!

We officially registered Emma this morning for Pre-K at St. Maria Goretti. Registration didn't open until 7:30am this morning but we were told on Friday that there were only five spots left for the MWF class (siblings and parishioners had first pick) so Patrick headed up to sit in line at 3:30am!! I took the later shift and took over at 6am. We are sleepy but it was worth it because she got in and got the MWF class- cannot wait for her first day of BIG GIRL SCHOOL (that's how Emma distinguishes between her current pre-school and where she will go next year!)

Valentine's Day Craftiness

I decided to get crafty and made shirts for the kids for their Valentine's Day parties at school today. I tried to get a cute pic of the kids together this morning but they weren't cooperative so the two pics below are the best I got to show the shirts!!

Reading & Playing

Bryan loves to sit in a chair and "read" books- especially books that have Elmo & Grover!

(Yes, he has learned how to climb up in the big chairs and on the couch!)

The kids just love playing together, which makes me so happy!

Museums

With all this cold and wet winter weather I've been trying to find indoor activities for the kids on the weekends (especially the weekends when Patrick works!). We've really put our Ft. Worth Museum membership to good use, the kids love going there and always find something new to explore. For a change of pace we decided to hit up the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science this weekend- like the Ft. Worth Museum they also have a Children's Museum section. The kids had a lot of fun and burned off a lot of energy exploring all the exhibits!!

Taking a quick rest in the Backyard Patio area!

Water table fun, Bryan refused the smock but suprisingly didn't get too wet!

Making music!!

Bryan trying his hand at milking a cow...it was soo cute, water actually came out of the utters!! Emma squirted herself a couple times before she mastered the skill of getting it in the bucket.

Bryan doing some plating with Grandma!

Emma working on her garden!

Bryan collecting some eggs from the chickens

Emma riding a horse during our trip to the Ft. Worth Museum a couple weeks ago with Dondi & "little" Jaydon (crazy that we have two friends with little girls named Jaydon- so Emma calls them "big" Jaydon and "little" Jaydon)

Bryan riding a horse- he refused to let me hold on to him, he wanted to do it all by himself like Emma!

Emma and Jaydon inside the alligator's mouth!!
